Major update

I'm thinking of skipping over to Wordpress with this blog because it just seems like I could have more fun with wordpress themes than I can with Blogger.
Any thoughts? While I'm posting, some link love to a blogger video blogging neighbour.

Steampunk robotics

I know this isn't a robot as such, but it LOOKS like I hope the robot helpers of the future will look. Just imagine lying in bed ona frosty winters morning and simply shouting down the stairs to 'Lion-O' to jump outside and defrost the car, collect the paper, and chase off the doves that keep dumping on your prized Prius.

And if thats not enough steampunk for ya - here's a little more.

Robot head joy

I love boingboing - this story about robot heads is just perfect!

robot games

A neat robot playing a boring game. I kinda want to build a lego robot to control a mouse / track pad to play games like this creative commons photo driven one. I just like the idea of having a robot play a computer game by watching a screen.

Sexy robot

This certainly is a sweet mover, but sexy? I'm not so sure. Sometimes these youtube descriptions are a little hyped! But hey - each to their own.

Is Revver struggling?

Not robot related I'm afraid, but I've been finding Revver to be incredibly slow to respond this past week. The Revver model appeals to me greatly, post a video, earn when people watch it if they click an ad. Simple. But if it's painfully slow...
Apparently microsoft is eyeing up Revver as a youtube killer. If they do make the leap, hopefully some new servers will be the first on the shopping list.

Robot egg suit

Don't tell me you don't want this robot egg suit. I know you do. How could you not. Robot egg suit. It has a nice ring to it even if it wasn't the ultimate in cool. But it is. So it's a given. You want a robot egg suit. I should start selling them. I'd be a millionairre!

Lingual difficulties aside...

This is one cool little jivin' robot.

Sweet emotionbot - an emotional robot friend

This sweet little fella from Korea gets all emotional. I'd love one of these to have the ability to cry and look sad if you do bad stuff like eat too much cheese, watch too much teevee, or not cut the onions small enough when making a pasta sauce.

Link love saturday

Another weekly round of link love! Hurrah.

BoingBoing posted an excellent Robot Zen article this week (at). Aswell as a steam punk walking robot. Very cool. DoshDosh is a sweet capitalist money grabbing ad laden bundle of bloggy joy. Some mybloglog contact from pigmoosed led me to his quite pretty web2.0 focussed site. General surfing for robot blog heaven turned up robot gossip, an interesting mix of robot related randomness.

On the tech front Yahoo! has been impressing me with Pipes and Site Explorer.

Segway robotic joy

No video I'm afraid, but this was too cool to skip.

"We have assumed that as for Japan SGI the host system of the robot development support platform “BlackShip” which the same company has already sold you define the [seguuei] RMP series, you sell aim toward the enlargement of robot business domestic research period and as for the university and enterprise."

Basically, a segway base for ANY robot. I'm in love. I just want to build a roaming off road deathbot.

Z-list joy for access to technorati heaven

Democratising the internet in a slightly random hippy manner, I've picked up on the Z-list meme via the million dollars site listed below. Lots of link love to everyone below.

Hopefully some of you will be encouraged to visit these sites and link to them yourselves, helping everyone below to gain a few extra backlinks on techorati. Technorati geeks make me laugh so much I've kind of turned into one.

So if you like the whole Z-list idea copy the list below into your blog, add robot video if you would be so kind, and spread the link love.

Can I borrow a cup of robots?

The coolest collection of robot related pixels I've seen all week.

Link love Saturday

I've been rummaging around at mybloglog.com checking out the blogs of those who have joined my blog communities. To show them some additional love I've listed a few of the better sites I stumbled across below. Hope you like, but don't forget to come back for a dose of robot based moving entertainment.

lyricsplex.com Lyrics plus Youtube video = kareoke fun.
lucullian.blogspot.com a very slickly photographed foodie blog.
thoughtpath.blogspot.com my more serious side.
theskinnycook.com a busy site, but dig through the clutter and theres some interesting fun stuff to consume!
thembonez.blogspot.com a real stack of everything blog, ran my favourite story of the past month though - about the lobster machine - so it's fine with me!

Bud Light Ad

No Ones Going to see this Right?
The apologybot 3000 does the business. Apparently culled from the Superbowl 2007 line up for being too racy! This seems to be the way to get mileage out of the superbowl advertising funfest without shelling out the bucks, just make an ad with some 'innappropriate' content and have it take over the internet. I have to say I approve! Pity Bud Light tastes so bad!

Robot Combat

A wealth of fighting robot goodness over at http://www.robotcombat.com/ All Quicktime and locked to the site, Robots at Play has some pretty cool pallette destruction sequences.

Dilbert robot puzzler

You gotta love Dilbert. On yesterdays Dilbert Blog post "In yesterday’s post, I asked how many of you guys would have sex with a robot if it was indistinguishable from a hot human woman. About 95% of the hetero guys said they would. The other 5% expressed a strong preference for lying.". No comment.

Robot 2580, via Maya4.0

A pretty impressive animation featuring the subtlest use of a paper plane being thrown by a robot I've seen in a while. 2 and a half minutes of cool!

- From the iFilm site: "In 2580, robots have become completely independent of human beings and have their own civilization. They also get wasted, do origami and hallucinate. Here's one robots story. The filmmakers used MAYA4.0 for the 3D animation, AfterEffects for the vidio editing, and ProTools for the sound design. Kenji Ishimaru created all of the content except the background music."

Robot funfair ride

I call this a robot, even though its just a slightly roboty funfair ride. Is roboty a word? And if it is, how many t's should it have? Robotty?

Thats not the point. the point is that I'd be REALLY scared of this thing if I was a bit too tall. Which I am. Beats a roller coaster though, especially if you have a button to let go of if you're scared. That way you get to laugh at your chicken friends, and show off how much vomit inducing head spin you can take yourself.

With a warranty like this, everyone is worried

The banned / cancelled GM suicide robot commercial.

A 'making of' GM robot ad video follows - I include it just for some of the VERY short clips of the robots 'on set' because they look kinda lively. I guess if you were a robot and you dropped a bolt you WOULD feel like a bit of an idiot.

Sportbots 1 - Baseball

First in an occassional series, this baseball batting robot looks pretty hopeless but entertaining - in the best spirit of robotics. The makers website is a pretty cool affair though (check the gallery for big bob and the topless dancer). I love the whole feel of the robot with the hydraulics, pistons and visible nuts and bolts.

Climbing insect robot

Flying robots will always be cooler than crawling robots, but how freaked would you be to see this thing coming to get you. Sell these for $20 with a polycarb shell you can paint! Someone! Please! Rubik robot

I always loved my Rubiks cube. Actually I think I loved it for about 6 months, then I got a Grifter for my birthday and forgot I even HAD a Rubik cube. Grifters were just a bit more interactive. Now a robot riding a Raleigh Grifter, THATS a video I gotta find! At a push a robot on a chopper, but everyone knows Grifters are harder.

I love this 'bots face, so evil for such a harmless purpose. I'm sure it's other skill is shelling lobsters alive!

Robot suit

An oldie but a goodie. Straight out of robocop, japanese land walker people suit. You will KNOW it's the future when paintball parks start to have these available as paid powerups. Just imagine the scene, feet filled with paint, 6 massive paint flame throwers on the front, a trebuchet based paint balloon flinger on top. I can't wait!

If not in life then on screen

Building robots is fun - off and on the screen!

Fun with 3D software drawing robots from UberAnimator on Revver. I'm assuming the purpose of this robot is to move a six pack around in its square and refridgerated body segment.

Look like he succumbed and drank some before setting off! Naughty robot.

Mr 999 - robotic arm

I don't know about you, but I hate it when I forget to take my teabag out in the morning. I'll avoid the coffee, trying to be healthy, and kick off a mug of peppermint tea. "leave for 3 minutes".

Three minutes is a long time, so I get distracted. Theres only one solution. What I need is a USB powered robotic programmable arm. Luckily...

"MR-999 ROBOT ARM can perform such actions as to grab, release, lift, lower, rotate wrist and pivot sideways for 350 degrees as you command with a wired controller."

A quick hack to code the controller to take timed instructions over the USB and I've got my perfect tea machine. If it can depress a cafetierre and pour a cup of the Ethiopian good stuff too then who needs a kitchen!

World’s first winged flying robot

Flying machines / robots with tiny propellers, rotors and even jets have been around for a while, but this is "the world's first robot to use brute flapping-power to remain airborne". Apparently it will be turning up in UK shops this spring, can't wait. Imagine the fun you could have getting the feet of this thing covered in paint and landing it on someones book. Ok. Not that much fun. But it would tickle me.

Messofcablebot 1 - the line tracker.

You have to love a messofcablebot. I want to know more about this bot and it's line following ways too - but there's nothing about it on youtube. If you know this bot, get in touch.

Robots in disguise - the music continues

Anything with robots popping out fake bonbs, Might Boosh goodness, and primary coloured cardboard pointless robots of the future works for me. Throw in some city destruction and who can't love this. Link
Loved the style, check DavetheChimp for more, although its empty right now.

Kraftwerk

Good old kraftwerk they have the wierdest site I've seen in ages - good old sine waves, takes me back to the days of hacking a sinclair spectrum to plot sinusoidal spider webs in mono. Fun Fun Fun

Maker joy

Make is my favourite magazine by far. Being UK based it seems to arrive on the most bizarre schedule, sometimes 6 months apart, sometimes 2 weeks as it crosses the pond. This marriage or robots and Make made me happy. Check out the make blog for interesting fun stuff to do on rainy sundays, or my other blog for slightly less extensive, but just as fun projects.

Wheels. Of. Steels.

I love this. Hacking industrial robots to do interesting things is cool. DJing is (quite) cool. Hacking idustrial robots to DJ is therefore (kinda) cool squared.

Robot wars of the future

Fighting robots that consist of more than a dustbin lid with a big hydraulic blade really do rule. The red one kinda reminds me of my brother. Robot wars should come back with a bipedal rule - then I'd watch it again. With or without Philippa Forrester.

Living in Hawaii + robots to play with = joy

From the revver description: "Young high school students from Hawaii create, design and build remotely controlled underwater vehicles (ROV's) to compete with other students across the nation." If anyone has a link to this contest drop me a line / comment.

Dog fights Robot

Let battle commence:

To me toy robots are the second coolest (after lego robots) just because they are so cheap you can let animals play with them.

Hello world

Test post to see if the revver code drops in correctly. Robots are sweet!
